Multifocal Motor Neuropathy and Conduction Block

  • MMN-acquired, autoimmune, chronic assymetrical motor neuropathy with focal conduction block with NCS testing. (MMN-CB)  Sensory NCS normal.
  • 1st described in mid 1980s.
  • Clinical characteristics of pure motor neuropathy that affects multiple peripheral nerves in the limb, plexus, and roots.  Cranial involvement rare.
  • CSF protein normal or only mildly elevated.
  • High titer antibody-IgM and anti-GM1 supportive evidence.
  • Responds to immunomodulating therapy-IVIG and/or cyclophosphamide.
